Though many of UK residents are not aware, the European Union has enforced a ruling regarding the external services of all consistently subordinate operators. The reiterated guidelines calls for a rate decline in roaming charges, demanding for EU providers to cease in the overpricing of roaming services. Though the UK operators are not necessarily obligated under such guidelines, many broadband providers have responded by means of price reduction. As of July 23, both O2 and T-Mobile have officially enforced a price reduction regarding roaming operation.
O2, a popular provider across the expanse of Europe, has acted with drastic response in relation to other providers. The cut in costs has reduced the price of data usage to less than £3 per MB. This reduction of prices in European countries endows consumers with a radical cutback, equipment which saves customers up to 80 percent. O2 customers which subscribe to contract services will have a discounted outlay nearing 57 percent.
T-Mobile has too reacted to this new union guideline, responding with a severe decline in roaming costs. Even less than O2’s cutback, T-Mobile has enlisted a roaming cost of merely £1.50 per MB, a stern plummet from earlier prices of £1.50 per MB.
Broadband companies are also considering the addition of bundled packages for consumers, a decision which will result in an even higher decline in roaming prices. In an overall analysis, the GSMA established that roaming charges have declined 25 percent in recent months, a direct result of European Union guidelines. Despite the recent reductions, some critics still deem roaming prices as overly priced. Other providers are expected to channel similar reductions with the duration of the approaching month.
