Aggression

Aggression is a term that is frequently mentioned in poker circles, and for good reason. Playing an aggressive game of online poker takes a fair amount of luck out of the game, which is important, because gambler can tell you that luck will not always be on your side.

If you are passive, playing a hand with nothing but checks and calls, you only have one way to win the hand-you’ve got to have the best cards at the table. If you play aggressively, with strategic raises, you give yourself another way to win-if you don’t have the best cards at the casino table, you can scare your opponents out of the hand with a big raise.

I love playing against passive opponents, because if I don’t have the cards yet, I can see other hands for free, or I can usually place a bet and scare them into folding the hand to me. I don’t look forward to playing against aggressive players, because they always force you into re-evaluating the value of your hands. I always play fewer starting hands when there’s another aggressor at the table. Jack-10 unsuited seems fine if I only have to pay a big blind to see the flop, but it’s a much worse hand when I know someone’s going to make me pay more to see whether or not the flop will help me.
